Hello, I am Keenan from New York City. I graduated with honors from Bennington College in Vermont, where I studied literature, music, and French. My professional experience includes serving as the lead writing tutor at Bennington College, running an acting camp, teaching English in Tibet, and writing CCSS-aligned curricula for 9th-12th grade English Language Arts. In my free time I like to explore my interests in reading, writing, music, languages, traveling, museums, enjoying the outdoors, and pets.I believe that reading, writing, and speaking are inextricably linked; reading also teaches you how to write, the practice of writing improves reading skills, and speaking similarly improves reading and written language abilities. One belief I share with students that is very helpful to language arts learning is that reading and writing happen at the level of the sentence. True learning is a collaboration and an extended conversation. I see it as my role to give my students opportunities to feel engaged and inspired to learn, rather than running them through rote memorization. As you may have noted, my strengths lie in the arena of English language. I enjoy tutoring students in my favorite subjects including reading, writing, essay editing, French, ESL/ELL, journalism, world literature, music, philosophy, social sciences, ACT and SAT preparation, AP English language and composition, and creative writing.
